Maria Aliotti Appointed as Interim Pittsburg City Manager

The City of Pittsburg is pleased to announce that Assistant City Manager Maria Aliotti will assume the position of Interim City Manager, effective Friday, September 5, 2025, following the anticipated retirement of City Manager Garrett Evans.

Aliotti brings over 23 years of dedicated service to the City of Pittsburg, with notable contributions to redevelopment, municipal planning, budget development, and strategic initiative implementation. Most recently, she played a key leadership role in presenting and guiding the adoption of the City’s FY 2025–26 Operating Budget.

“Maria Aliotti has been a valued and dedicated leader in our organization for many years, and the City Council has full confidence in her ability to guide Pittsburg during this important time. Her deep knowledge of our operations, commitment to fiscal responsibility, and passion for serving our community make her the right choice to serve as Interim City Manager,” says Mayor Jelani Killings.

During Aliotti’s time in Pittsburg, she has served as an Administrative Analyst, Project Manager, Redevelopment/Development Manager, Director of Community Services, and for the past 5 years, as Assistant City Manager, bringing a wealth of executive leadership experience to her new role as Interim City Manager. Aliotti also served on the California Redevelopment Association Brownfields Committee.

In her various roles, Aliotti developed the First Time Homebuyer and Commercial Rehabilitation Loan Programs, project managed the renovation of the California Theatre and the construction of Plaza Marina, and was instrumental in the creation of the Community Facilities District that helped fund the construction of the Pittsburg Center BART Station.

Aliotti grew up in Pittsburg and is a graduate of Pittsburg High School.  “I am honored to step into the role of Interim City Manager and continue serving our community during this transition,” said Maria Aliotti. “I look forward to working closely with our dedicated City Council, staff, and community partners to ensure continuity of services and to carry forward the momentum of progress.”

The City Council has engaged Peckham & McKenney, a recognized executive search firm, to assist in the recruitment of a permanent City Manager. The recruitment is actively underway, with applications accepted through September 14, 2025.  The City Council anticipates completing the recruitment and appointment process in the fall of this year.
