Mt. Diablo High School Football Field Turf Damaged in Fire

On Tuesday, the Concord Police Department released a statement on the Mt. Diablo High School Football Field fire over the weekend that damaged the field.

According to Concord Police:

This past Sunday morning firefighters from the Contra Costa Fire Protection District and CPD officers were called to Mt. Diablo High School for the report of a fire on the newly installed synthetic turf on the football field. The fire was extinguished; however, the field experienced significant damage. CFD arson investigators responded and are investigating. A review of surveillance footage shows what appears to be several persons, possibly juveniles, setting off fireworks on the field the night before, which may or may not have led to the fire. Both CFD investigators and CPD detectives are continuing to investigate to identify the persons responsible.

Anyone with more information is encouraged to contact Detective Lee Lawrence at (925) 671-3234. ~481/596

No other information was released. The field was recently installed and costs the District nearly $3 million. Both the Concord Police Department and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District are investigating.
