Labor Day

The California Highway Patrol reported that they made 1,214 DUI arrests over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Over the Labor Day Weekend Holiday Enforcement Period (Aug 29–Sept 1), CHP officers were out in full force across California. Our mission: stop dangerous driving behaviors before they became tragedies.

Compared to the same period in 2024 (CHP jurisdiction):

  • Fatal crashes dropped 49% (39 → 20)
  • Fatalities dropped 51% (43 → 21)
  • Enforcement activity increased:
  • 45,829 enforcement contacts
  • 34,331 citations issued
  • 19,798 speeding citations
  • 1,214 DUI arrests (up from 1,140 last year)
Every arrest, every ticket, and every stop represents a dangerous behavior taken off the road. The sharp drop in fatal crashes shows that increased enforcement saves lives.
Whether you were headed to a barbecue, a ballgame, or back from a family trip, CHP officers were working around the clock to keep you safe. Our commitment to roadway safety doesn’t stop here, it continues every single day.
Remember:
  •  Slow down
  • Stay focused
  • Buckle up
  • Always drive sober
The mission of the CHP is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

CHP CRACKS DOWN ON IMPAIRED DRIVERS THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND:

The dangers of impaired driving are clear. Over the past five years, Labor Day weekend has averaged:

  • 1,000 DUI arrests statewide
  • 28 fatal crashes resulting in more than 30 deaths within CHP jurisdiction

During last year’s holiday enforcement period, 61 lives were lost. Of those, 21 were linked to impaired driving. Additionally, CHP officers made 1,140 DUI arrests during the holiday weekend.
