The Manteca Police Department says an 26-year-old Antioch man is in custody related to four shootings over two days, a pursuit and firing shots at officers.
According to police:
On the evening of September 9, Manteca Police Officers located a vehicle believed to be connected to four separate shootings at the same residence over the past two days. The incidents, which occurred on September 8 and September 9, resulted in property damage but no reported injuries. Through investigative efforts, officers obtained a description and license plate number of the suspect vehicle which led to its identification.
At approximately 6:55 pm, officers observed the suspect vehicle and driver in the parking lot of Jack-In-The-Box at Main Street and Louise avenue. Officers initiated a high-risk traffic stop and issued commands to the driver. Instead of complying, the suspect reversed the vehicle toward one of the patrol units. An officer attempted to block the suspects escape, but the suspect fled the scene, and a pursuit ensued.
During the pursuit, while traveling northbound on Union Road between Lovelace Road and French Camp Road, the suspect fired multiple rounds at the pursuing officers. The pursuit continued westbound onto French Camp Road where the suspects vehicle ultimately collided with an uninvolved motorist at French Camp Road and Dudley Road. The suspect’s vehicle veered off the roadway into a nearby field, rolling several times before coming to rest.
Following the crash, officers established containment and gave comments to the suspect. After approximately 20 minutes of negotiation, the suspect exited the vehicle and surrendered without further incident. The suspect complained of pain and was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle.
The suspect is a 26-year-old male from the Antioch area. His identify and the vehicle description are temporary withheld pending a photo-line-ups and additional witness interviews. He will be booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on multiple charges, including those related to the shootings, the vehicle pursuit, and firing at officers.
The Manteca Police Department said no officers, community members or uninvolved motorists were seriously injured in the incident.
