On Tuesday, the Oakley City Council approved its master fee schedule for Carry Concealed Weapon Permits.
The move comes after the Contra Costa County Sheriff had a large demand they were unable to process the requests in a timely manner which by April 30, 2025, the Sheriff informed the Oakley Police Department, they would no longer be processing the residents of Oakley CCW permits, and the Chief would need to begin issuing these permits to its residents – as a result of the 2022 case known as the Bruen decision against New York.
The cost will be $500 to go through the process for a CCW.
“With this, staff time is estimated to be around $100 an hour and we are expecting it to be 4-6 hours of staff time. We are requesting for the CCW fee schedule to be amended to $500 which is comparable to many of the neighboring areas,” said Lt. Cartwright noting half would be due up front, and the remainder due upon issuing the CCW.
The fees as as follows:
- Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Standard 2 Year – $500
- Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Judicial 3 Year – $500
- Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Custodial 4 Year – $500
- Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Reserve 4 Year – $500
- Renewal Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Standard 2 Year – $238
- Renewal Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Judicial 3 Year – $238
- Renewal Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Custodial 4 Year – $238
- Renewal Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – Reserve 4 Year – $238
- Duplicate/Modify Carry Concealed Weapon Permit – $15
Without discussion, the council approved the master fee schedule in a 5-0 vote.
