CALTRANS: Overnight Full Closure for Portion of SR-4

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — Caltrans will perform an overnight full closure of westbound State Route 4 (SR-4) from Cummings Skyway to San Pablo Avenue beginning Monday, September 29, 2025, through Friday, October 10, 2025. Closures will be in effect Monday through Friday nights from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

The closure is necessary to allow paving crews to complete work in the Cummings Skyway area. Please note this schedule is tentative and subject to change depending on weather conditions and construction progress.

Closure Details:

Westbound SR-4 between Cummings Skyway and San Pablo Avenue

  • Monday, September 29th through Friday, October 10, 2025, 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, each night (Monday through Friday Only)

Traffic Control:

Detour Route for Westbound SR-4

  1. Exit Cummings Skyway Offramp.
  2. Turn right onto Cummings Skyway Road.
  3. Turn left onto the westbound I-80 Onramp.
  4. Exit at the San Pablo Avenue Offramp.

Please follow posted signs and detour routes during the closure periods. Eastbound SR-4 traffic is not expected to be affected.

24-Hour Reverse Traffic Control at Cummings Skyway Overcrossing near I-80 in Crockett

Contra Costa County — Caltrans has installed temporary traffic signals and lane striping to implement 24/7 reverse traffic control, at the Cummings Skyway Overcrossing in the City of Crockett. Caltrans will continue to perform guard rail replacement and concrete barrier installation, beginning Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

This work is part of a broader infrastructure improvement effort and will require multiple lane and ramp closures in the area. Reverse traffic control will remain in place through the duration of the project and operate 24 hours per day.

Minor delays are expected — motorists should plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Please obey all signals for your safety.

All work is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026, and subject to change, weather and field conditions permitting.
