California Secretary of State Releases Voter Registration Report

According to new data released by the California Secretary of State’s Office, 44.96% of voters are registered with the Democratic Party.

However, according to the data, the Democratic Party saw the fewest increases in voter registration between February 10 and Sept. 26 with just 190 new voter registrations.

Meanwhile, the no party preference had an increase of 82,733 while the republican party at 66,104 new registrations.

When comparing the data from the Feb 10 data to the Sept. 26 release, here is a look at the net gains for each party.

  • +82,733 – No Party Preference
  • +66,104 – Republican
  • +38,048 – American Independent
  • +5,609 – Peace and Freedom
  • +2,401 – Green
  • +487 – Libertarian
  • +190 – Democratic
  • -17,195 – Unknown/Others

There are a total of 23,061,263 registered voters.

Contra Costa County Data:

According to data from the Contra Costa County Clerk Recorder, here is a rundown of their total data as of October 7, 2025:

  • 378,253 – Democratic
  • 209,751 – Other
  • 141,470 – Republican

However, when you go back to February 20, 2024 data, here is a look at the net gain for each party:

  • +12,216 – Other
  • +9,385 – Republican
  • -2,381 – Democratic

Sacramento, California – Today, Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D., released the latest Report of Registration which reflects data as of September 5, 2025. A record total of 23,061,263 eligible Californians are registered to vote. The complete September 5, 2025, Report of Registration can be viewed online at: sos.ca.gov/elections/report-registration/60-day-special-2025.

Californians can register to vote or update their voter registration online at: registertovote.ca.gov.

Californians who are unsure of their voter registration status can quickly check it online at voterstatus.sos.ca.gov.

The Report of Registration is a compilation of voter registration numbers reported by California’s 58 county elections offices.

The Report of Registration includes:

  • Voter registration by political party, county, city, congressional district, state senate district, state assembly district, state board of equalization district, county supervisorial district, and political subdivision
  • Statewide voter registration by age group and by county
  • Voter registration by political bodies attempting to qualify as political parties (by county)
