On October 25, the Antioch Police Department participated in the 3rd Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk. This was a 2-mile walk of Empowering and Healing.
The police department joined community partners of all ages where they walked in solidarity with survivors, raised awareness about domestic violence preventing and reaffirmed commitment to breaking the cycle of abuse.

According to Chief Joe Vigil, they encourage victims and witnesses to call Antioch Police if they know anyone is being abused or suspected of being abused. If family and friends are afraid to call the police, they can call the Family Justice Center, located at 3501 Lome Tree Way, 925-281-0970. There is also a west county facility at 256 24th St., in Richmond, 510-974-7200.
Police added that partnerships such as Shepherds Gate and the Family Justice Center can provide victims with assistance, resources, and counseling in incidents related to abuse.

This time, the legislation is being introduced with the support of the California State Sheriffs’ Association as the sponsor. Statistics show that nearly two-thirds of mass shooters have documented histories of domestic violence or have killed a family member. This marks an increase from earlier years, underscoring the ongoing risk posed by violent offenders with such histories.
