Richmond Police Investigate Series of Shootings, 1 Homicide

The Richmond Police Department says its investigating a total of 4 shootings that have occurred this past week, including 1 homicide.

The first shooting occurred Dec 13 with several more that followed, including a homicide on Dec 16. Meanwhile, on Friday, police announced four arrests from an incident on Monday.

 

Community Update | Shooting Investigation – 800 Block of Chanslor Avenue

On Monday around 12:06 p.m., Richmond Police officers responded to reports of a fight and shots fired in the 800 block of Chanslor Avenue near Sylvester Greenwood Academy. The incident involved both students and adults, and at least one shot was fired. No injuries were reported, and the school building sustained minor damage. The suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival. As part of the follow-up investigation, the RPD SWAT Team served a search warrant Wednesday morning in North Richmond. Four individuals were arrested on charges related to the initial fight, including felony battery.

Investigators are continuing to work diligently to identify the individual responsible for firing the weapon. This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Richmond Police Department Communications Center at 510-233-1214.


Dec 17: Shooting Investigation 1400 block Pennsylvania Ave

Richmond Police officers are currently on scene investigating a shooting in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital with moderate injuries and is expected to survive. This remains an active investigation, and there may be a visible police presence in the area. The 1400 block of Pennsylvania Ave will be closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic while the investigation takes place. We ask the community to avoid the immediate area and thank residents for their patience and cooperation. Homicide Investigation – 300 block Macdonald Ave

On December 16, 2025, at approximately 11:23 p.m., Richmond Police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 300 block of Macdonald Ave. Officers located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and immediately provided first aid and life-saving efforts. Despite those efforts, the victim sadly did not survive. Richmond Police Department Homicide Detectives responded and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. This is Richmond’s 5th homicide of the year. We extend our sincere condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. Dec 13: Community Alert – Active Investigation

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 400 block of South 25th Street. This remains an active investigation. Residents are asked to avoid the area while officers complete their investigation. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.
