The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between January 4-24 according to the El Cerrito Police Department.
It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest
January 4th
- Battery-11300 Block of San Pablo Ave: At 6:39 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect got into an argument with the victim. During the altercation the suspect punched the victim.
January 5th
- Vandalism – 11940 San Pablo Ave (Tub Town): At 10:04 AM, an officer reports a suspect broke the handle on a washing machine.
- Petty Theft – 5600 block of Central Ave: At 2:51 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole a rolling cart off the porch of the residence.
January 5th
- Residential Burglary – 500 Block of Sea View Drive: An officer reports multiple suspects entered the victims residence during the day and removed an unknown amount of property at this time.
- Robbery – 11200 Block of San Pablo Ave. At 8:53 PM, two suspects ordered food from the business. After receiving the food, they fled without paying. When the business owner attempted to stop the suspects the business owner was assaulted by one of the suspects. The suspects fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
January 6th
- Vandalism – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway) At 3:15 PM, an officer reports the suspect damaged property inside the business. Officers detained the suspect and accepted the citizen’s arrest. The suspect was booked at El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
- Battery – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot Locker) At 4:45 PM, an officer reports the victim witnessed a fight and an attempted stabbing with a knife. After the suspect attempted to stab the first victim, the suspect put the knife away and then kicked the second victim (the reporting party). The suspect left prior to officers arrival. While on scene officers were unable to locate the victim of the attempted stabbing. The officer spoke with the victim who got kicked and the victim did not desire prosecution for the battery.
- Petty Theft – 1000 Block of Contra Costa Drive: At 3:22 PM, an officer reports the victims license plate was stolen between 12/31/25 and 01/07/26.
- Commercial Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave At 5:45 PM, an officer reports the victims locker was broken into and property was stolen. The victim later recovered some of the stolen property in Richmond.
- Arson – 3400 block of Yosemite Ave. At 4:47 AM, an unknown subject set fire to a porta potty.
January 8th
- Vandalism – 11821 San Pablo Ave (McDonald’s) At 09:08 AM, an officer reports a suspect vandalized the victims vehicle after a road rage incident. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.
- Vandalism – 9900 Block of San Pablo Ave At 11:00 AM, an officer reports an unknown subject vandalized a City of El Cerrito trailer within the last several days.
- Vandalism / Auto Burglary – 1400 Block of Liberty Street At 12:59 PM, an officer reports the suspect shattered all of the vehicle’s tires, smashed all of the vehicles windows and stole property from the vehicle.
- Petty Theft – 1700 Block At 2:49 PM, an officer reports the suspect entered and ransacked the victims vehicle. The suspect stole property and no forced entry was located.
- Petty Theft – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave. At 6:41 PM, the victim reported a package stolen.
- Obstruction and Delaying a Peace Officer – San Pablo Ave / Central Ave. At 3:32 AM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop on a subject. The subject refused to identify themselves and was placed under arrest. The subject refused to sign the citation and was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility Martinez.
January 9th

- Attempt Theft – 1700 Block of Liberty St: At 12:56 AM, an officer reports a witness noticed the suspect inside the victim’s vehicle and confronted him. After a brief verbal altercation, the suspect fled the scene.
- Driving Under the Influence/Unlicensed Driver- Cutting Blvd/Peerless Ave: At 1:37 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence and being unlicensed. The driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
- Vandalism – San Pablo Ave/ Moser Ln: At 7:00 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect used an unknown object to damage the victim’s vehicle.
January 11th
- Driving Under the Influence- Lassen Ave/Yosemite Ave: At 2:27 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for Driving Under the Influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
- Driving Under the Influence- Carlson Blvd/Panama Ave: At 8:48 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
January 12th
- Vandalism- 11821 San Pablo Ave (McDonalds): At 12:44 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect threw a rock at one of the windows of the business causing damage.
- Auto Burglary – 1500 block of South 56th Street: At 8:55 AM, an officer reports the victims vehicle was stolen and property was stolen.
- Theft – 410 El Cerrito Plaza (Verizon): At 6:00PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole property from the victim’s unlocked vehicle.
- Theft with Priors/ Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Warrant-11555 San Pablo Ave (DD’s Discounts): At 7:19 PM, an officer was in the area for an unrelated incident when he noticed the suspect exited the store with an armful of merchandise. The officer contacted employees who confirmed the suspect had exited the business without paying for the merchandise. The officer caught up to the suspect and detained him. The suspect was placed under citizen’s arrest. During a search incident to arrest the suspect was found to be in possession of a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. During a records check the officer discovered the suspect had an outstanding warrant and five prior theft convictions. After the suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, he was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
January 13th
- Petty Theft – 1700 Block of Wesley Ave: At 2:07 PM, an officer reports property was stolen from inside of the unlocked vehicle.
- Petty Theft – 5300 Block of School Street: At 2:17 PM, an officer reports a vehicles license plates were stolen.
January 14th
- Residential Burglary – 2300 Block of Cedar Street At 9:40 AM, an officer reports the suspect forced entry into the residence and ransacked it.
- Vandalism – 7500 Block of Fairmount Ave At 11:06 AM, an officer reports the suspect caused damage to the business window overnight.
- Possession of Burglary tools/Possession of controlled substances – 11565 San Pablo Ave At 2:05 PM, an officer conducted a suspicious vehicle check and contacted one of the occupants. The officer conducted a search of the subject and they were placed under arrest for being in possession of a controlled substance and burglary tools. The subject was booked at ECPD and later released on a citation.
- Embezzlement & Grand Theft – 10650 San Pablo Ave (Autozone) At 5:35 PM, an officer reported an Autozone loss prevention officer conducted a theft investigation into one of its employees. The investigation revealed the employee had embezzled money from the business for the last several months. Autozone reported a loss of over ten thousand dollars’ worth of merchandise. The suspect was arrested and booked at ECPD. The suspect was later transported to MDF.
January 15th
- Driving Under the Influence – Carlson Blvd/Columbia Ave: At 12:28 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
- Hit and Run – Liberty Street/Portola Ave At 2:42 PM, an officer reports the suspect collided into a fire hydrant and fled the scene prior to police arrival. A witness was able to provide a license plate to officers. Officers located the registered owner of the vehicle and obtained a statement regarding the collision.
- Stolen Vehicle – 2000 Block of Tapscott Ave At 3:00 PM, an officer reports the victims vehicle was stolen overnight.
- Residential Burglary- 7400 Block of Moeser Ln:
At 8:05 PM, unknown suspects shattered a window to gain entry into the victim’s house. No property loss reported.
January 16th
- Robbery – Ohlone Greenway/Wall Ave: An officer reports on January 14, around 1:50Pm, the victim was approached by the suspect who brandished a firearm and demanded the victim’s property.
- Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/Portola Dr: At 11:07 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
January 17th
- Stolen Vehicle / Felony Evading – S. 53rd St / Potrero Ave: A stolen vehicle hit on Flock entering the city at 7:27 AM, Central Ave/San Mateo St. After several additional Flock hits, at 8:02 hours, officers located the vehicle parked on S.53rd St at Potrero Avenue, occupied. A brief pursuit ensued, westbound on Potrero and northbound on Carlson, but the pursuit was canceled when the vehicle was headed for a construction zone at high speed. Richmond Police later recovered the vehicle unoccupied in Point Richmond and it was returned to its owner.
- Petty Theft/Prior Offenses – 7225 Fairmount Ave (Fatapples): At 4:35 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect after they stole $7 from the tip jar and fled westbound on Fairmount. An arriving officer detained the suspect on Fairmount Ave near Albemarle St, and the suspect was positively identified. They were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. The suspect had four prior theft convictions, which qualified him for felony charges. They were transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
- Driving Under the Influence – I-80/Potrero Ave: At 10:24 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
- Warrant Arrest – Del Norte BART Station: At 11:53 PM, BART PD requested for El Cerrito PD officers to take custody of a subject who had an outstanding El Cerrito PD warrant. Officers responded to the location and took custody of the subject and transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility.
January 18th
- Driving Under the Influence – San Pablo Ave/Barrett Ave: At 1:30 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
January 19th
- Driving Under the Influence – Cutting Blvd/San Pablo Ave: At 1:30 AM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. The driver was transported to the El Cerrito Police Department for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
- Stolen Vehicle/Evading – 7000 Block of Tamalpais Pl: At 5:08 AM, the victim heard the engine of his vehicle starting from in front of his residence. Seconds later an unknown suspect drove the vehicle away. The victim called the police to report the incident and advised the vehicle was equipped with a tracking device. Officers responded to the area in Richmond and located the vehicle. The suspect fled the area at a high rate of speed when they saw the officers. Officers pursued the vehicle onto the freeway and lost sight of the of it. The victim continued tracking the vehicle and it was located in the City of Richmond abandoned. The victim responded to the scene and took possession of his vehicle.
- Warrant Arrest – Baxter Creek Park: At 3:30 A.M. during foot patrol in Baxter Creek Park, officers arrested a suspect on a warrant. The suspect was released with a citation.
- Theft – 3020 El Cerrito Plaza (Starbucks): At 6:02 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s property.
January 20th
- Stolen Vehicle – 900 Block of Liberty St: At 8:08 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle. The theft occurred between January 18th and January 19th.
- Theft – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 12:31 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s bicycle from in front of the store.
- Identity Theft- 11800 Block of San Pablo Ave: At 3:05 PM, an officer reports two suspects entered the victims’ place of employment and stole their credit cards. The credit cards were later used at several businesses in West Contra Costa County.
- Stolen Vehicle – 1800 block of Liberty St: At 4:19 PM, an officer reports the theft of the victim’s vehicle. The theft occurred between January 1st and January 5th.
- Organized Retail Theft – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 5:23 PM, an officer reports two unknown suspects stole merchandise from the business.
Warrant Arrest – 9800 Block of San Pablo Ave. At 2:53 AM, officers arrested a subject with an outstanding warrant. The subject was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility
January 21st
- Vandalism – 8300 block of Kent Ct: At 9:26 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect threw an object through the rear window of the victim’s vehicle and a window on the house causing damage.
- Warrant Arrest – Canyon Trail Park. At 1:04 AM, officers arrested a subject on an outstanding warrant. The subject was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
January 22nd
- Robbery – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens) At 9:47 AM, an officer reports the suspect sprayed the victim with Mace and kicked the security guard while stealing merchandise from the store. The suspect left in a vehicle prior to PD’s arrival.
- Shoplifting, False Identification, Possession of a controlled substance, and Warrant – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens) At 10:13 AM, while investigating another crime an officer reports a suspect stole merchandise in front of them. The officer accepted the citizens arrest of the suspect for the theft. The suspect later provided false identifying information, was found to be in possession of narcotics, and found to have a non-citeable warrant. The suspect was issued a citation on the new charges and transported to county hospital for a previous medical issue. After receiving medical clearance, the suspect was booked in to the Martinez Detention Facility for the outstanding warrant.
- Grand Theft – Ohlone Greenway/Potrero Ave (Bruce King Memorial Dog Park) At 3:00 PM, an officer reports the suspect stole copper wire from the lights near the dog park.
January 23rd
- Petty Theft – 1700 block of Elm St: At 8:35 AM, an officer reports theft of property from an unlocked car between 3:50 – 4:00 PM on 1/22.
- Vehicle Theft – 6200 block of Jordan Ave: At 9:08 AM, an officer reports theft of a vehicle between noon on 1/22 and 8:30 AM on 1/23.
- Lost or Stolen License Plate – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway): At 2:30 hours, an officer took a lobby report of a lost or stolen rear plate.
- Driving Under the Influence – Central Ave/Yosemite Ave: At 10:57 PM, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver for driving under the influence. After the driver was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, they were issued a citation and released to a sober friend.
January 24th
- Arson – 11575 San Pablo Ave (Old Church’s Chicken): At 2:00 AM, officers responded to the area for a suspicious fire. While on scene a witness pointed out the suspect who had started the fire. Officer detained the suspect and he was placed under Citizen’s Arrest. Officers obtained a statement from the suspect and released him on a citation due to an existing medical condition.
- Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1000 block of Liberty St: At 11:37 AM, an officer located a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was unoccupied.
- Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 2500 block of Yuba St: At 2:24 hours, an officer located a vehicle that was reported stolen. The registered owner recovered their own stolen car in Oakland but failed to have the vehicle removed from the system.
- Possession of Counterfeit Bills – 3090 El Cerrito Plaza (Starbucks): At 6:14 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the business and presented counterfeit bills as payment.
