February is a chance to show love to where it matters most. This year let’s show love to your recycling cart by giving it the right materials it truly loves.
Here are the items that make your recycling cart feel loved.
❤️ Cardboard: Cardboard is the recycling cart’s long‑time love. Clean, dry, and flattened cardboard boxes are always welcome and encouraged. Just remember, please no greasy pizza boxes-those are heartbreakers.
❤️Paper: Paper is the cart’s dependable Valentine. Newspapers, magazines, office paper, envelopes, and paper bags all go in your cart. Heartbreaker: anything coated with plastic or food.
💘 Aluminum & Tin: Aluminum and tin cans are like the cart’s favorite flowers. Rinse them out, give them a quick shake, and drop them in.
❤️ Glass: Glass bottles and jars bring a little sparkle to your cart’s day. Clear, green, or brown—your cart loves them all. Just make sure they’re empty and free of food residue.
💗 Plastic #1 and #2: Not all plastics are created equal, but plastics labeled #1 (PET) and #2 (HDPE) are your cart’s true loves. These include Water and soda bottles, Milk jugs, and Detergent bottles. Plastic CONTAINERS #3 to #5 + #7 are hard to recycle: single-use cups, yogurt and small tubs, clamshell containers. Your cart doesn’t love these. Please reduce your consumption of them.
So, what Breaks Your Cart’s Heart? Keep these out of your recycling cart:
- Plastic bags and film
- Styrofoam
- Food waste
- Hazardous materials
- Compressed gas or microwaves
These items cause contamination, slow down recycling processes, and can even damage equipment and harm our employees.
When you recycle right, you’re not just helping your cart—you’re helping your community, your environment, and future generations. So, this Valentine’s Day + throughout the month, show your recycling cart some affection. Give it the materials it loves, keep out the ones that cause heartbreak, and enjoy the warm feeling of doing something good.
