Update: Body of Missing Jet Ski Rider Recovered in Discovery Bay

On Sunday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to the Town of Discovery Bay for a report of a drowning.

The incident began just before 1:30 pm near the 5700 block of Marlin Drive. It was reported that a 21-year-old male on a jet ski flipped and was in the water while not wearing a life jacket. At the time the call came in, he was last seen around 1:15 pm while wearing a blue shirt.  A drone was requested as part of the response, which was reportedly coming from CHP in American Canyon.

Contra Costa County Fire responded by 1:45 pm had a rescue swimmer in the water. A CHP helicopter along with US Coast Guard also responded. At one point during the rescue, as many as 5 rescue swimmers were in the water searching along with a boat.

By 3:00 pm, Contra Costa County Fire deemed this now as a “recovery” mission and began turning this incident over to the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office.

No other details have been released as of Sunday night.


Monday Update: Fatal Incident in Delta (10:00 am)

On Sunday afternoon, March 1, 2026, at about 1:31, Delta Station and Marine Patrol deputy sheriffs were dispatched to an unknown problem at the Discovery Bay Marina launch ramp.

Deputies arrived on scene and determined a jet-ski apparently flipped over with 3 people on board, near the boat launch ramps. Two adults were able to swim to a nearby dock. A third person on the jet-ski disappeared under the water. Deputies were told he did not know how to swim and was not wearing a life-jacket at the time.

Rescue efforts were started by Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and the U.S. Coast Guard. The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team also responded.

After an approximate two-hour search, the person was located and recovered. He is not being identified at this time. Marine Patrol is conducting a fatal vessel accident investigation.
