Concord, CA – Contra Costa County Public Works’ Airports Division is excited to announce the availability of unleaded aviation fuel (Avgas) at Buchanan Field Airport (CCR) in Concord. The addition of unleaded fuel was achieved by Pacific States Aviation (PSA), a Fixed Base Operator (FBO) at Buchanan Field, which took its first delivery of Swift’s UL94 fuel on December 30, 2025, and began dispensing it in February 2026. For more information about Swift’s UL 94 product, please visit https://www.swiftfuelsavgas.com/faq
While UL94 is not designed to run in every piston-powered airplane (approximately 70% of the US piston fleet can utilize UL94), it will be used in 100%, or 13 PSA flight training aircraft based at CCR. PSA has the largest fleet of training aircraft at CCR.
The efforts of PSA and Airports Division staff over the last year to make this a reality demonstrate the Airports’ and its business community’s commitment to bringing a safe and commercially viable unleaded fuel option to Contra Costa County.
Supervisor Ken Carlson welcomes the transition to unleaded Avgas, stating, “As a member of the Bay Area Air District (BAAD), this is an example of the bold steps industry can take. I applaud PSA and the Airports Division staff for their continued commitment to bringing unleaded Avgas to Buchanan Airport.”
