On March 30, 2026, at approximately 9:58 a.m., officers with the Martinez Police Department were on routine patrol when they contacted an individual near the Amtrak Station located at 601 Marina Vista Avenue.
During the contact, officers discovered the subject was in possession of suspected illegal narcotics. While speaking with officers, the subject stated he was also in possession of precursor chemicals commonly used in the manufacturing of illegal narcotics. The chemicals were determined to be in various stages of the manufacturing process.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Contra Costa Fire District Hazardous Materials Response Team and the Contra Costa County Health Services Hazardous Materials Incident Response Team were requested to assist.
Hazardous materials personnel responded to the scene, safely assessed the situation, and rendered the chemicals secure. Contra Costa County Health Services subsequently took possession of the chemicals for proper disposal.
The subject was taken into custody without incident and later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on multiple charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
