MARTINEZ — Organizers have cancelled the 2026 Martinez Brickyard Road Race, ending a beloved Contra Costa County tradition that has been held every spring for the past 54 years.
Race Director Kevin Searls — who has led the event since 2012, announced the cancellation. “I’m just devastated that we couldn’t make this happen,” Searls said. “To have a race that has lasted 54 years and is such an icon in Martinez and not being able to get it together this year is personally devastating. The race also provide much-needed support to the Alhambra High School Track and Field team. We are optimistic about restarting the race next year.”
The Brickyard Run has long been a community highlight in Martinez, drawing families, competitive runners, and casual participants to the Carquinez Strait shoreline each April. Many local residents remember it as one of the area’s oldest continuous road races.
