Martinez, California –  The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has filed a two-count criminal complaint against a San Francisco man in connection with the 2021 murder of a Richmond resident.

Reno Goldie Fiapoto, 26, has been charged with the murder of Derrick McDougal, who was 21 years old when he was fatally shot on March 16, 2021. The murder charge carries three enhancements: active membership in a criminal street gang, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and death, and purposefully discharging a firearm at McDougal. Fiapoto faces an additional charge of unlawful and active participation in a criminal street gang.

McDougal was killed on the 2200 block of Barrett Avenue in Richmond at approximately 8:40 am. Following a multi-year joint investigation by the Richmond and San Francisco police departments, the FBI, and the Major Crimes Task Force, Fiapoto was arrested on April 14th – and the case was referred to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution on April 15th.

Fiapoto was arraigned today at 1:30 p.m. at the A.F. Bray Courts Building Annex in Martinez. He’s currently in custody without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility.
