Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder After Shooting in Unincorporated Oakley

A 60-year-old man was arrested after a shooting Tuesday in unincorporated Oakley according to the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at about 5:15 PM, Contra Costa County Delta Station deputy sheriffs were dispatched to the 3300 block of Wells Road in unincorporated Oakley for a report that someone was shot.

Deputies arrived on scene finding a man who was suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a hospital by helicopter.

The suspect was located and detained at the scene. He was later arrested. He is identified as 60-year-old James O’Bryan of unincorporated Oakley. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on attempted murder and prohibited person in possession of ammunition charges. He is being held in lieu of $800,000 bail.
