The Pinole Police Department announced they had responded to Pinole Valley High School on Monday after recieving a report of a firearm on campus. The student was quickly taken into custody without incident.

Here is the release from Pinole PD:

On April 27, 2026, Pinole Police Officers responded to Pinole Valley High School after receiving a report of a student possibly in possession of a firearm. As a precaution, the school was placed on lock down. Officers quickly responded and with the assistance of school staff and security, safely detained the involved student without incident. During the investigation, officers located a firearm inside the student’s backpack.

The firearm recovered appeared to be manufactured using a 3D-printing process. These types of self-manufactured firearms, often referred to as “ghost guns”, can closely resemble commercially produced firearms and may still be considered firearms under California law, even if they are incomplete or not immediately functional.

Community Awareness – Why This Matters:

Advances in technology, including 3D printing, are making it easier to create firearm components at home. These firearms can be difficult to trace and may still be illegal depending on how they are made or possessed. Even incomplete or inoperable firearms can still meet the legal definition of a firearm and pose serious safety concerns

 Our Response:

The situation was handled safely and quickly

There is no ongoing threat to the school or community

The case has been forwarded for further review consistent with California law

A Message to Parents and Guardians:

We encourage families to have open conversations with their children about the dangers and legal consequences of weapons, responsible use of technology, and reporting concerns to trusted adults or school officials. The safety of our schools and community remains our top priority. We appreciate the quick actions of the student who reported this incident and the cooperation of school staff.
