LMC Scholarships

Los Medanos College Foundation this month awarded 52 students with scholarships totaling $88,850.

The amount of this year’s awards and the number of recipients demonstrate growing support among LMC’s stakeholders, community partners, and local employers. The total dollar awards represent a 12% increase over the $79,000 awarded in 2025. The number of recipients this year jumped 48% from the 35 recipients the prior year.

These increases indicate a greater number of students are successfully navigating academics, seizing opportunities, putting in the work to earn scholarships and applying for financial support.

“LMC Foundation is proud to award nearly $90,000 in scholarships to LMC students this year,” LMC Foundation Director Tara Sanders said, adding that scholarship funding comes from generous donors. “During the 2025-2026 scholarship cycle, we were honored to establish new scholarships thanks to the kindness and commitment of friends of the LMC Foundation.”

New scholarships include:

  • Linda Lacasse Memorial Scholarship. 3.0 GPA required, must be a continuing student and demonstrate financial need. Two recipients at $2,500 each.
  • Bernard Tyson Memorial Scholarship for nursing majors. Bernard Tyson was the CEO of Kaiser America. His sister, Shun Tyson is a nurse who went to LMC and she along with his Foundation established the scholarship at $500, two per year.
  • Ken Alexander Study Abroad Scholarship – Art, Art History, History preferred, though all majors are welcome to apply, 3.0 GPA required. This scholarship recognizes the educational contributions that Ken Alexander has afforded to so many students. Applicants must be an LMC student enrolled in a verified 4CD study abroad (SA) program and provide documentation of the SA program and their continued or transfer for the next term. Three awards: $1,000 for summer, $2,000 fall, $2,000 spring, established by Jane A. Beatty and Matthew J. Foehr.
