Concord – On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Contra Costa Water District’s (CCWD) Board of Directors (Board) appointed Daniel T. Fitzpatrick to fill the Board vacancy for Division 2.

In April 2026, CCWD’s Division 2 seat became vacant following the retirement of former Board Director, John Burgh. Division 2 includes portions of the cities and communities of Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Port Costa and Concord.

Eight community members applied to represent Division 2 and five were selected to interview during a special CCWD Board meeting. Following interviews, the Board conducted a public discussion of their recommendations and selected Daniel T. Fitzpatrick, a Martinez resident.

“The Board had the opportunity to meet with the five finalists who presented their unique qualifications to represent CCWD customers,” said Board President Ernesto A. Avila. “We had a public discussion following the interviews and Mr. Fitzpatrick’s background in finance and real estate were noted as we look at major decisions on capital investments. The Board also appreciated that he highlighted CCWD’s customers as important partners.”

Mr. Fitzpatrick has a legal and real estate background, including professional experience in land use, public rights, regulatory review, and property-related legal analysis. He also has experience in California water law focused on the relationship between public trust and water rights.

Following the Board’s decision, Mr. Fitzpatrick shared, “I am honored to join the CCWD Board representing the communities in Division 2. While new to public office, I have experience working with public agencies and elected boards, and I am excited to work with CCWD’s customers, fellow Board members and staff.  My hope is to apply my professional expertise and passion for sound public policy towards ensuring reliable and affordable water service for our community.”

Mr. Fitzpatrick will complete the oath of office before taking his seat at the next Board meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
