Oakley: Arcing Wires Shut Down Portion of Laurel Road

At 2:39 pm Sunday, a portion of Laurel Road near Brown Road was cautioned off due to wires arcing after a power pole was sheared in the City of Oakley.

The incident prompted a response from the Oakley Police Department and Contra Costa County Fire who quickly worked to shut down the roadway and clear the area for PG&E to respond. No injuries were reported and no timeline was provided as to when the roadway would open.

The following message was released by the City of Oakley Sunday:

The City of Oakley is currently working on road closures at several points due to one power pole that is confirmed to be down and another one that is threatening to come down.

The downed poles are near the intersection of Laurel and Empire. The following are the various points of road closure:

    • Eastbound Laurel is blocked at Empire
    • Westbound Laurel is blocked at Woodhill
    • Northbound Brown is blocked at Oxford

The downed poles belong to the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) and they are being called out to assess/repair. At this point there is no ETA for reopening. Please avoid the area and exercise caution.  This message will be updated as the event unfolds.

Instructions:
Avoid the impacted area, find alternate routing, be prepared for a prolonged impact to the roadway.

As of 4:00 pm, no other information has been released.

4:30 pm UPDATE:

THE POINT OF CLOSURE THAT WAS AT WESTBOUND LAUREL AND WOODHILL HAS BEEN MOVED TO WESTBOUND LAUREL AND MERCEDES. THERE IS NOW A TWO HOUR ETA FOR WAPA RESPONSE TO THE AREA
