At approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday, Contra Costa Fire responded to reports of a garage fire at a single-story residence in Concord. Multiple callers reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage, and dispatchers confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival.
The first arriving engine reported visible smoke from approximately a half mile away. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire involving the garage with extension into the attic space of the home. Incident command was established, and firefighters immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack while additional crews secured a water supply and supported suppression operations.
Firefighters confirmed all occupants were accounted for and worked quickly to contain the fire to the garage and attic area. Truck company personnel performed ventilation operations while additional crews advanced hose lines and extinguished the fire. Utilities were secured, including electricity and natural gas service to the residence.
Firefighters successfully knocked down the fire within approximately 20 minutes of arrival.
Following extinguishment, crews conducted overhaul operations to identify and extinguish any remaining hidden fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
