At 6:00 pm Wednesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the area of Balfour Road and Deer Valley Road.
While responding, units observed smoke in the area and the fire was estimated at an acre in size. It quickly grew to 10 acres and air support was requested along with a 2-alarm response with structure protection.
By 7:00 pm, the fire has been contained and crews are mopping up hot spots. The community warning system also confirmed the “all clear”

PREPARE to EVACUATE in BRENTWOOD due to FIRE.
- This is a message from the BRENTWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT. As of 6:40PM, due to a FIRE IN BRENTWOOD, residents in SHADOW LAKES neighborhood should PREPARE TO EVAUATE. This is an EVACUATION WARNING. No evacuation has been ordered at this time, but it is possible one may become necessary. You should prepare now in case an evacuation is ordered. Gather any important items you could carry with you, including medications, baby supplies, money, important papers, and photos. Locate any pets or animals and be prepared to cage or leash them. If you require additional time to evacuate, you should leave now. You will receive further instructions if an evacuation becomes necessary.
- UPDATE – As of 7:30pm, an `All Clear` has been issued for the FIRE in SHADOW LAKES neighborhood in the city of Brentwood.

On the evening of June 3, 2026, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire), along with Cal Fire resources for the Santa Clara Ranger Unit, responded to a vegetation fire near the intersection of Balfour Road and Deer Valley Road in Brentwood.
Initially reported as a small field fire, approximately the size of a car, the first-arriving units were immediately confronted with aggressive, increased fire behavior characteristic of the early fire season. Driven by these volatile conditions, the fire spread rapidly toward the St. Regis and Presidio neighborhoods, visibly impinging on backyard fences.
Recognizing the immediate threat to life and property, initial units took quick action to upgrade the response to a second alarm.
As the incident escalated, the Incident Command System evolved in complexity to manage the highly dynamic situation. Battalion 9 assumed “Deer IC” and swiftly organized multiple structure protection groups, deploying 19 engines, Crew 12, and Dozer 220 to anchor the flanks and defend the neighborhoods situated above the fire. Con Fire’s Copter 1 provided critical water drops early in the incident, as well as providing aircraft coordination with incoming Cal Fire helicopters and fixed wing assets. Cal Fire simultaneously joined the command structure, contributing vital mutual aid such as engine companies and dozers to assist with containment lines and structure protection.
Their air support—including a fixed-wing plane, Sonoma Air Attack, and Alma Copter 614—provided strategic water drops to suppress the fire’s perimeter. Additionally, the Brentwood Police Department (BPD) assisted with public safety by initiating emergency evacuations for residents along St. Regis. Ultimately, the outstanding and coordinated work of Con Fire, Cal Fire, and the Brentwood Police Department successfully suppressed the fast-moving 48 acre blaze before it could damage any homes.
While the aggressive fire scorched fencing along St. Regis and Copperfield, and fire crews had to intentionally dismantle portions of fences at properties on Presidio to gain critical access for firefighting operations, structural loss was completely prevented. Forward progress was halted less than an hour after the initial dispatch.
No injuries to civilians or first responders were reported during the incident, and command was eventually transferred seamlessly to Cal Fire as Con Fire units were released.
