Unless you live in Lafayette or Moraga, voters in Contra Costa County sent a message to elected officials no more new taxes or bonds.
The latest election results were released Friday at 3:45 pm.
Voters rejected a 0.625% sales tax increase (Measure B) to increase revenues to protect services in Contra Costa County likely to be reduced due to federal cuts. The county was asking voters if they would support a sales tax increases, which they overwhelmingly rejected.
Meanwhile in Oakley, the school district had the audacity to ask voters to support not one, but two bond measures for a total of $123 million for classroom repairs and student safety improvements – if approved, it would have added $30 per $100k assessed home value.
Along with a Transportation Measure on the ballot in November, along with several likley school district bonds set to be on the ballot, its unclear what strategies will be used to educate the public or if potential measures will be postponed.
Measures That Did Not Pass
Measure B: Contra Costa County Sales Tax
This measure needed a majority vote to pass and only has 42.59% support.
- Yes: 42.59% (105,028)
- No: 57.41% (141,590)
Measure G: Contra Costa County Community College District
While close, in votes, it needs 55% to pass and just 49.17% support the measure.
- Yes: 49.17% (124,415)
- No: 50.83% (124,415)
Measure J: Oakley Union Elementary School District
Needed 55% support for it to pass and has just 43.03% support
- Yes: 43.03%
- No: 56.97%
Measure K: Oakley Union Elementary School District
Needed 55% support for it to pass and only has just 43.87% support
- Yes: 43.87%
- No: 56.13%
Measure L: Walnut Creek School District
This measure needed 66.6% support to pass and will not pass as it has 64.07% support
- Yes: 64.07% (10,578)
- No: 35.93% (16,509)
Passing Measures
Measure H: Lafayette School District
- This measure needed a 66% support… it currently stands at 74.55% support and will likely pass.
Measure I: Moraga School District
- This measure needed 66% support, it currently stands at 69.50% and will likely pass.
