Oakley: 10-Year-Old Saves Family From House Fire

A 10-year-old girl is being called a hero after saving her family from a house fire in the City of Oakley.

The fire broke out just before 3:30 am Wednesday in the 1200 block of W Cypress Road.

According to Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Jeff Burris, fire crews arrived on scene to a house involved with flames along with power lines between the pole and house dropped onto the ground which hindered their initial fire attack – with power lines down, they had made contact with the homeowner who stated everyone was out, they had to go defensive fire attack until additional crews were on scene.

Neena Morgan called her daughter, Elizabeth Morgan, a hero after spotting the flames and alerting the family.

 

“The power went out in the house, she freaked out. Looked out the window to see what was going on, saw the flames and started yelling at everybody in the house waking all of us getting us out of the house,” explained Morgan. “She is our hero.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation and appears to have started in the porch of the home.

Road Impacts: According to the City of Oakley,  W. Cypress Road between Duarte Avenue and O’Hara Avenue will have intermittent single-lane closures while PG&E repairs downed and deactivated lines due to an early morning house fire. There is currently no estimated time for reopening the roadway. Please expect delays on eastbound W. Cypress and proceed with caution
