CONTRA COSTA COUNTY — Caltrans Construction has scheduled full closures of State Route 4 (SR-4) over the next two weeks to ensure public safety and facilitate ongoing construction activities from Hillcrest Avenue to Byron Highway.
These closures are necessary to complete grinding and paving operations, including the application of the final layer of Rubberized Hot Mix Asphalt (RHMA).
- SR-4 will be closed in both eastbound and westbound directions beginning Sunday, June 14, 2026, between Balfour Road and Walnut Boulevard , from 7:30 PM to 5:00 AM.
- In addition, grinding and paving work on westbound SR-4 from Lone Tree Way to Laurel Road is scheduled to start June 15, 2026, between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
- For eastbound SR-4 traffic, grinding and paving from Laurel Road to Balfour Road will tentatively begin June 16, 2026, with work hours from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
Motorists are advised to adhere to posted signage and detour routes during these closure periods.
Please note: all scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change.
Lane and ramp closure will continue to take place every Sunday through Thursday night between the hours of 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM throughout the duration of this project.
