The City of Brentwood announced several roadways in the city will see new reduced speed limits.

The council approved the Engineering and Traffic Survey in a 5-0 vote back at its April 14 meeting where new signs would cost approximately $5,000. The survey was done in accordance with State requirements.

According to the city, 11 new segments will see speed reductions over the next several weeks which focus on the portions of Brentwood Boulevard, Lone Tree Way, O’Hara Avenue, Sand Creek Road, and Walnut Boulevard.

“We have a speeding problem in Brentwood,” said Jovita Mendoza during the April 14 meeting. “I think there are a lot of speeders in Brentwood so I do appreciate us adjusting the speeds.”

At the meeting, Brentwood Police said they were hopeful for voluntary compliance with the speed limits and are consistently working on traffic safety – including using radar. They said many communities are dealing with the same issues of speeding.

Vice Mayor Pa’Tanisha Pierson asked about an increase of enforcement when the speed changes occurred.

Chief Walter O’Grodnick said they will put out a messaging sign with radar trailers to raise awareness.
