The Manteca Police Department announced the arrested of a 25-year-old Antioch man in connection to a bank jugging case.
Accordng to police, based on over $78,000 dollars stolen between April 2026 and today, Manteca Police Patrol Officers set up a surveillance operation to locate a bank jugging suspect. Shortly after they started the surveillance at Wells Fargo Bank (160 N. Main Street), the suspect arrived to commit another jugging, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Bank jugging is a name given to suspects that surveil banks for people who make withdrawals and exit with a bank bag or envelope in their hand. The suspect follows the victims as they drive away from the bank and park their car at another location such as a store or restaurant. While the victim is away from the car, the suspect will break into the car and steal the withdrawn money that was left in the car. There have also been some occasions where the jugger will confront the victim and rob them.
This operation was based on information from 10 jugging cases between April 2026 and today, that resulted in more than $78,000 dollars in loss. Those cases provided various leads such as suspect vehicle information, suspect clothing information, and suspect method of operation, and common bank locations that allowed for a focused operation. The suspect was taken into custody after he parked in a location to observe a new victim leaving the bank. He was found to match the suspect description of 2 prior cases. Further, he had clothing and burglary tools consistent with items worn and used in those cases.
The suspect is a 25-year-old black male from Antioch: Malik Antwan Jamal Shackelford. He was booked into San Joaquin County Jail for auto burglary, grand theft, and having a device that conceals a license plate, and the cases will be forwarded to The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
The Manteca Police Department request any victims that have not made reports or witnesses to any jugging activity to contact the department – at 209.456.8101 – to provide a statement. These investigations are greatly assisted by victim and witness statements or any videos from cars that have dash cameras. Refer to case 26-02728 and 26-02840
