On Tuesday, the Danville Town Council agreed to move forward with an ordinance that creates new rules for e-bikes and e-scooters.
The town had been working to address safety concerns with e-bikes and motorized scooters since 2024 and had already adopted two ordinances—including prohibiting e-bikes and motorized scooters on sidewalks and the other was prohibiting them in playground areas.
Under Tuesday’s action, it tackles speed limits and parks noting e-bikes must now be walked in parks.
- Restricting e-bikes and motorized scooters to paved trails only. This recommendation is based on damage caused to ballfields and landscape areas in parks.
- Establishing a speed limit of 15 mph within Town parks and on trails This recommendation was based on the Commission’ s goal of establishing clear, enforceable standards. The 15 mph limit was selected to match the existing speed limit on the Iron Horse Trail ( note that the draft ordinance applies this proposed speed limit to all bicycles, not just e-bikes, to match the EBRPD ordinance
The item will return July 7, 2026 and go into effect 30-days later.
