On Tuesday, Brentwood City Councilmember Faye Maloney requested a future agenda item to prohibit the establishment of data centers within the City of Brentwood.
According to her request, she would like to look into an ordinance prohibiting the establishment, construction, expansion, operation of any new data center facilities within our city limits.
Maloney said this was a joint item by herself and councilmember Jovita Mendoza. It is unclear how quickly the item would return to the city council.
The move comes as the City of Pittsburg is dealing with the fallout by residents after approving a data center in November 2024 – and finally waking up to the project realities. Meanwhile, the City of Oakley currently has a moratorium on data centers for up to one year, but are working on an extension. The city of Antioch has not taken a position.
Other Meeting Tidbits:
- 2026/27 & 2027/28 Operating Budget: Approved a 2-year balanced budget which largely maintained existing service levels. A two-year budget shows a $35k surplus (see report)
- Temporary 8% Pay Hike for Assistant City Manager: The council agreed to a pay hike for acting city manager Terrance Davis as he fills in for G. Harold Duffey who is on paid administrative leave. The pay increase dates back to June 16, 2026. Davis will receive a 8% pay increase above his current assistant city manager salary.
- Vineyards At Marsh Creek – Theater/Event Center/Amphitheater Phase 1 gets architect: Approved a Professional Services Agreement with WMB Architects for the Architectural Pre-design Services in the amount of $258,775, plus a 10% contingency of $25,878, for a total funding authorization not-to-exceed amount of $284,653 for the Vineyards at Marsh Creek Event Center/Amphitheater Project. It should be noted, the project has been planned since 2004 and in recent years has had several conversations on the purpose, noise, usages. The designs could return within 8-months but several conversations will be had during that time.
