On Friday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire that broke out on a hillside along Franklin Canyon Road in the City of Martinez.
The incident began around 10:00 am and when crews arrived on scene reported an acre on fire. By 10:14 pm, it was estimated 3-5 acres in size and by 10:44 pm, a 2nd alarm response was requested. Crews were ultimately able to contain the fire from spreading any further as they coordinated with CALFIRE and the Crockett-Carqueinez Fire District.
Just before midnight, the fire was contained to 10.5 acres in size. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was not provided and the incident is under investigation.
