Danville Adopts New Ordinance Prohibiting Riding E-Bikes and E-Scooters in Parks

The Danville Town Council has adopted a new ordinance requiring riders of electric bicycles (e-bikes) and motorized scooters to dismount and walk their devices while in all Town parks beginning Aug. 6, 2026.

Riders may continue bringing these e-bikes into parks, but they may not be ridden within park boundaries.

The ordinance is intended to help Danville’s parks remain safe, comfortable spaces where people of all ages can walk, play, gather, and enjoy recreation. As e-bikes have become an increasingly popular way to travel throughout the community, the Town is committed to helping riders understand how the new ordinance will affect park use.

Over the coming weeks, the Town will begin a community education campaign that includes signage at Town parks, sharing information through Town communication channels, and working directly with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and local schools to help educate students and families before the new school year begins. The Town’s initial focus will be on education, ensuring riders understand the new park requirements before the ordinance takes effect and helping families plan ahead as students return to school.

Councilmember Renee Morgan shared when it came from enforcement, they now have a policy in place to allow them to enforce and urged the community to give it a chance.

‘We have a clear direction of what the kids can and cannot do,” said Morgan. “When children or adults and not given those guidelines and they are allowed to go through our parks and streets and not have those clear guidelines, it makes it more difficult to police that. So now we have that, we are able to say you are doing something against the law.”

She said Danvill said the safest city for a reason.

Mayor Newell Americh said they will continue to be doing outreach and parents are the targets—with robust discussions.

“The good thing about this ordinance is its black and white. You either get off your bike or you don’t. If you don’t, you can be cited for that,” said Americh. “It’s not about what kind of bike it is, if it is electric anything, you cant ride it in the park. So from an enforcement standpoint, it’s a huge step forward.”
