On Wednesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to multiple fires across the county — including a 47-acre fire in Byron and providing aid to a 4-alarm vegetation fire in Benicia.
1:30 pm: I-680 in Benicia
Contra Costa County Fire provided mutual aid on a 4-alarm vegetation fire in Benicia at I-680 at N. Bayshore Rd. The fire caused CHP to issue a SIGALERT and blocked lanes of traffic as fire crews worked. Smoke from the fire was visible from Contra Costa County. The fire was under control by 3:30 pm. The fire was handled by the Benicia Fire Department with assistance from the Suisun City, Vacaville and Dixon Fire Departments.
3:35 pm: Byron Highway near Camino Diablo in Byron
Firefighters received mulitple calls of smoke and flames in the area of Byron Highway and Camino Diablo. Upon arrival, the fire was estimated at 4-acres and wind driven. It quickly jumped to 6-acres when a 2nd alarm response was requested as it jumped a fire line. The fire was ultimately stopped at approximently 47 acres by 4:34 pm. At 8:30 pm, fire crews remained on scene for mop up and dealing with several hot spots.
5:18 pm: SR 242 at S. Concord Ave in Concord
The fire broke out in the brush area and was estimated at 1/4 acre. Although there was a large column of smoke, the fire was quickly contained. The fire briefly caused firefighters and CHP to shut down the ramp while crews worked the incident.
5:47 pm: 4000 block Foothill Dr. in Pittsburg
This was a small vegetation fire that was estimated at less than 1-acre and did not threaten any homes. The incident was closed within 23-minutes.
8:07 pm – Holy Rd & Byron Highway in Byron
A small fire with little details. A column of smoke quickly disappeared, believed to be a cooking fire.
