Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (CON Fire), CALFIRE and other local fire agencies did an impressive job fighting Friday’s Marsh Creek Fire – the Morgan Fire.
The fire held within its footprint at 50.8 acres in size.
According to CON Fire Chief Aaron McAllister, the fire was caught midslope, keeping it from running all the way to the top and more.
The CALFIRE aircraft and CON Fire’s Helicopter (Copter 1) worked until sunset. The Helopod at Marsh Creek was used overnight with two CALFIRE night flying helicopters.
Although there was an evacuation warning, that warning was lifted Saturday morning and all roads have since reopened.
Most CON fire and other local government agencies were released Friday night and CON Fire exited from serving as the Unified Command. CALFIRE is now in command. The Marsh Creek Detention Center is being used as a command post.
The success of this firefighting effort is due to the hard work of command staff, firefighters and first responders from several agencies as well as the leadership of Supervisor Diane Burgis in bringing more resources to firefighting infrastructure in Central and East County. Her hard work in making sure Measure X funds were used to improve firefighting response in Central/East County make it possible to respond quickly and with full force to these types of wildfire events and preventing them from spreading into larger events.
