Antioch, CA  — Taking the lead with a late move around Hunter Hammett of Oakley, reigning champion Grayson Baca of Brentwood won his second 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The championship battle remains close as the Top 4 drivers in the standings finished in the Top 5 in the Main Event.

The race was restarted after Jewell Crandall of Antioch spun and Turn 2. Oakley’s Charlie Bryant set the early pace ahead of Baca and Hammett. A low move in Turn 2 of the third lap gained Baca the lead with Hammett moving past Bryant in Turn 3 for second.  A yellow flag waved on Lap 7 for Ryan Skidmore Jr. Hammett charged past Baca for the lead on the restart. Oakley’s Aidan Ponciano was running third at that point, and he briefly took second from Baca on a Lap 10 restart. Baca went low in Turn 2 on the 11th lap to reclaim second.

Lap 14 saw the first of three yellow flags over the next three laps, but Hammett was still leading Baca and Ponciano on the Lap 16 restart. Baca made a strong inside move in Turn 1 of the 17th Lap and emerged with the lead over Hammett. Point leader James Thomson went low in Turn 4 on Lap 19 to take third from Ponciano, and Baca went on to score the victory ahead of Hammett, Thomson, Ponciano and a resurgent Crandall.

Jake Archibald of Oakley collected his very first Antioch Speedway 20 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event win. Archibald, who currently ranks fourth in the State point race, also won his eight lap heat race.

Archibald led Blaze Hill of Livermore on the opening lap before the first of only two yellow flags waved for Scott Foster of Oakley in Turn 4. Archibald maintained the lead on the restart with Jason Robles of Rio Vista moving into second ahead of Clarence Holbrook III of Galt. A low move in Turn 4 of the fourth lap gained Dave Hill of San Francisco third.

Archibald had built about a half-straightaway lead over Robles by Lap 10, and the final yellow flag waved on Lap 12 for Blaze Hill. Dave Hill pitted, and Archibald led Jason Robles and Kenneth Robles of Rio Vista on the restart. Archibald collected the victory ahead of Jason Robles, Kenneth Robles, point leader Fred Ryland of Brentwood and Holbrook.

Danny Wagner rebounded from an early race spin to win his second IMCA Sport Modified Main Event of the season. The current Watsonville point leader made a late move around Trevor Clymens of Brentwood and brought it home to victory.

Mark Garner of Antioch had a front row start and set the early pace ahead of Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley and Al Johnson of Antioch. Wagner moved into third on a Lap 2 restart, but he spun in Turn 4 on Lap 3. He kept going without a yellow flag. Clymens made an inside pass on the front stretch on Lap 5 to take third, and a Lap 7 yellow flag waved for Kyle Moore of Atwater. Point leader Fred Ryland of Brentwood pitted. Garner led the restart with Clymens moving past Ryan for second.

On Lap 9, Garner slowed on the front straightaway with a broken rear end as Clymens led Ryan and Trent Golden of Pittsburg. Clymens led the next restart with Golden moving into second ahead of Wagner. Wagner went low in Turn 2 on Lap 13 to take second from Golden and set his sights on Clymens. The battle intensified in the waning laps before Wagner made a low move and Turn 2 of the final lap to take the lead and victory away from Clymens. Ryan finished third ahead of Golden and Johnson.

Ty Carlson of Stockton won the 15 lap 600 Micro Sprint Main Event. Carlson won a Hobby Stock Main Event a couple of years ago, and that was his first visit in the division. Likewise, this was his first Micro Sprint visit to Antioch. He also won the eight lap heat race earlier in the evening.

Carlson led at the green flag ahead of point leader Devon Zuffa of Oakley and Aniyah Scott of Brentwood. They were running in that order when Buddy Chappell of San Jose lost a wheel on the back straightaway for a Lap 12 yellow flag. Zuffa lost power on the restart, but he was able to make the next restart as Carlson led Scott and reigning champion Payton Gentry of Santa Rosa. Zuffa moved back into third on Lap 14, and Carlson won ahead of Scott, Zuffa, Gentry and Matthew Linde of Pittsburg.

During the week, the BCRA Lightning Sprints elected to cancel their visit out of concern that they might not field enough cars for a good show following a rough outing the previous Saturday. The IMCA Modifieds were on the schedule, but nobody showed up for the race.

Racing resumes next Saturday night with the final event of the month. The Hunt Magnetos Wingless Spec Sprint Series will make their third of four scheduled visits with Back To School Backpack Night.

The Pacific Coast Hobby Stocks are also scheduled along with the Mini Stocks, WMR Midgets, Dwarf Cars and MTZ Auto Valley Sportsman/Hardtop division.
