The City of Pittsburg celebrated the grand reopening of the newly transformed Central Harbor Park and Boat Launch Facility, marking the completion of a community-driven project that enhances one of the East Bay’s premier waterfront destinations.
“Hello and welcome to this very exciting Grand Opening ceremony at the beautiful Central Harbor Park and Boat Launch,” said Pittsburg City Manager Darin Gale. “I love my job. I love what we do together and seeing improvements happen in the community right in front of my eyes. This kind of celebration is one of my favorites as a local government employee.”
The revitalized park features ADA-accessible pathways, new seating and shade, upgraded fishing amenities, enhanced lighting, secure parking, public fire pits, two Exeloo public restrooms, and a public safety substation.
The project began in 2021 with a planning grant from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy. Community outreach helped shape the park’s improvements, which were made possible through a $3.54 million Climate, Access, and Resource (CAR) Program grant.
“Thank you to the Delta Conservancy for believing in our project, considering Pittsburg a worthwhile location for a large investment,” said City Manager Gale. “You have been an excellent partner as evidenced by this outstanding community resource, and we look forward to many projects in the future.”
Mayor Dionne Adams added, “To the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Conservancy, we are grateful for your contribution and attention to this remarkable project that will have a lasting impact on our community and its relationship with the Delta.”
“For those that haven’t grown up here, we smile when we hear them say, ‘wow, this is in Pittsburg?'” she said. “Yes. Pittsburg is beautiful. And yes, Pittsburg is deserving of the outstanding amenities you see here.”
