During a Special City Council Meeting Study Session held on Monday, Aug. 3, City Manager Darin Gale announced the formation of an Advisory Committee on Data Center Development intended to solicit resident and stakeholder input on potential future data center development.
The announcement follows an in-depth presentation on the AVAIO data center project, which incorporated resident feedback gathered from the City’s virtual data center community engagement workshop held on Thursday, July 30. The virtual workshop drew more than 200 attendees and generated over 300 questions leading up to and during the meeting.
“Over the last few months, we have received ongoing questions from the community surrounding data center development within our city,” said City Manager Darin Gale. “We shared a comprehensive overview of the City’s policies, procedures, and projects on this topic. Now we have an opportunity to bring residents to the table to help shape the future of data center policy in Pittsburg.”
The Advisory Committee will include 10 to 20 Pittsburg stakeholders representing a range of backgrounds, industries, and perspectives from across the community. The committee will review and discuss research and advise the City Manager on matters related to data center policy development. Once appointed by the City Manager, the committee will serve in their roles over the next several months.
In addition to the committee, the City of Pittsburg is committed to ongoing outreach and engagement efforts pertaining to data center projects and development within the City. To learn more on the committee and current data center development in Pittsburg, visit pittsburgca.gov/datacenter.
