CONCORD — City Councilmember Laura Hoffmeister announced her campaign for reelection in District 1 on Aug. 6, focusing on the issues residents consistently rank first: repairing neighborhood streets and major roadways, strengthening public safety and protecting established neighborhoods.
“This campaign is about what residents tell me matters most: well-maintained streets and safe neighborhoods,” said Hoffmeister. “I’m asking for another term to keep that work going.”
Roads have been a central focus. Hoffmeister supported recent neighborhood repaving in Dana Estates, with more planned in the coming years, and over the past four years she backed major thoroughfare work on Clayton Road, Treat Boulevard, Concord Boulevard, Willow Pass Road, Oak Grove Road, Port Chicago Highway and portions of Bailey Road.
On public safety, Hoffmeister works regularly with police department leadership on safety technology that helps officers deter and solve crimes, and she has supported programs to retain and hire officers and rebuild the force after the pandemic-era strain on law enforcement, including work with the academy to bring new officers on board. Her campaign is endorsed by the police officers’ association.
Hoffmeister also points to her record advocating for neighborhoods. After hearing from residents who wanted more separation between new construction and existing homes, she pushed for a 100-yard buffer between any new development at the Concord Naval Weapons Station and current homes. She also highlights the roughly 2,500 acres being set aside for a new East Bay Regional Park District park that will be open to all residents. The park district is in its planning process, with access expected in the coming years.
On homelessness, Hoffmeister points to measurable progress from a strategy she has championed.
“Concord’s dedicated outreach and services have helped cut the number of unsheltered residents by 45% since 2023, even as homelessness rose countywide,” she said. “I’ve supported the city’s Homeless Strategic Plan, a fully staffed Concord outreach team and partnerships that move people off the street and into housing. There’s more to do, and I’ll keep at it.”
Hoffmeister supports local living-wage jobs and workforce development that connect Concord residents to good careers.
Hoffmeister’s campaign opens with broad support, including a majority of her fellow City Council members.
“As someone who served as Concord’s mayor, I know how much experienced leadership matters at City Hall. Laura understands our city’s budget inside and out, and she’s spent decades protecting Concord’s finances and its neighborhoods,” said state Sen. Tim Grayson.
“With my 30 years in law enforcement with the City of Concord, my 10 years on the Pleasant Hill City Council and almost four years on the Board of Supervisors, I’ve seen Laura make significant improvements and positive impacts,” said county Supervisor Ken Carlson. “She’s had an active role in the growth and success of Concord, and she has my strong endorsement.”
“I’ve had the privilege of serving with Laura on the Concord City Council through some of the most consequential decisions in our city’s history,” said 2nd District Councilmember and former Mayor Carlyn Obringer. “She does her homework, she listens to residents, and she delivers. I wholeheartedly support her reelection.”
