CONCORD, Calif. – Blue Devils B has been crowned the 2026 Drum Corps International Open Class World Champion, earning the Concord-based program’s first championship title in ten years.
BDB earned a winning score of 81.725 on August 4 at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. The victory marked the program’s sixth Open Class World Championship and its first since 2016.
The young performers entered Finals in third place, 0.600 points behind the leader. One night later, they returned to the field with renewed focus and delivered the championship-winning performance of their 2026 production, Mise En Place.
BDB earned the highest overall scores in Music and Visual, including championship-winning performances from its brass and percussion sections. The corps also became the first Open Class ensemble since 2008 to win the championship after trailing at Prelims.
For the members, the experience was about more than their final score. Throughout the season, they learned to trust one another, respond to challenges, and continue working toward a shared goal even when the outcome was uncertain.

Director Matt Sieve. “Winning a World Championship is an incredible achievement, but what makes me most proud is the way these performers represented themselves, our program, and the Blue Devils throughout the entire season. Their work ethic, resilience, and commitment to one another made this group truly special, and they earned every bit of this success.”
That commitment carried the corps through long rehearsals, miles of travel, and the pressure of championship competition. When the members faced one final challenge, they refused to let a preliminary result determine how their story would end.
The championship reflects the dedication of the performers, instructional and administrative teams, volunteers, and families who supported the corps throughout the season.
It was also made possible by alumni, donors, community partners, and supporters whose generosity creates meaningful opportunities for young people through the performing arts. Blue Devils B returned to Concord with a championship trophy and something even more lasting: greater confidence, lifelong friendships, and the knowledge that resilience and teamwork can change the outcome of a difficult moment.
