Concord, CA – Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa (LFCC), City of Concord officials, community partners, donors, and volunteers will gather to celebrate the ribbon cutting of LFCC’s newest mobile unit made possible through funding from the City of Concord to support the Concord Mobile Dignity Center.
The new vehicle strengthens LFCC’s ability to provide nutritious meals directly to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity while serving as a cornerstone of the City of Concord’s innovative Mobile Dignity Center initiative serving people experiencing homelessness.
In 2025, the Concord City Council unanimously approved a $1.6 million investment to establish the Mobile Dignity Center, bringing together the City of Concord, Caminar, Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa, and other community organizations to provide coordinated services for unhoused residents in one welcoming location.
Operating weekly, the Mobile Dignity Center offers hot meals, groceries, clothing, hygiene services, housing navigation, mental health support, medical care, and other essential resources – bringing together services all in one location.
“This new mobile unit represents far more than a meal,” said Janette Kennedy, Executive Director of Development and External Relations for Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa. “It represents hope, dignity, and our shared commitment to ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry. We are deeply grateful to the City of Concord for its vision and partnership in making this possible.”
As Contra Costa County’s only daily hot meal provider, Loaves and Fishes operates five dining rooms, mobile meal programs, grocery distributions, and food recovery initiatives, serving thousands of meals each week to children, families, seniors, veterans, and individuals experiencing homelessness. The new vehicle expands LFCC’s ability to reach more neighbors while supporting the City of Concord’s broader strategy of providing integrated services through the Mobile Dignity Center.
The ribbon cutting marks another milestone in the growing partnership between the City of Concord and Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa, demonstrating what is possible when local government, nonprofits, businesses, volunteers, and community members work together to address hunger and homelessness with compassion and innovation.
