Antioch, CA — Justin Sanders of Watsonville won the 30 lap NARC King Of The West Winged 410 Sprint Car Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. It was the seventh win of the season for the point leader as the series made their only appearance of the season at the three-eighth mile clay oval.
Landon Brooks of Rio Oso grabbed the pole position for the Main Event with his six lap Trophy Dash win ahead of heat race winner Chance Grasty of Suisun City. However, on the opening lap, the two got together and both got sideways exiting Turn 2. They avoided a crash, but Sanders charged into the lead. Brooks settled into second, but Joey Ancona of Clayton made a Turn 2 pass on Lap 3 to claim the position. Sanders built a commanding lead over Ancona, who had to battle the persistent Brooks to maintain second. On the 22nd lap, Brooks made a high pass in Turn 2 to claim that position. The yellow flag waved after 26 laps for Ancona in Turn 4. This eliminated a half-lap lead for Sanders, but he resumed command when the green flag waved. Sanders brought it home to victory ahead of Brooks, Grasty, Tim Kaeding of San Jose and Dominic Scelzi of Fresno.
Aniyah Scott of Brentwood had another big night as she won both the 600 Micro Sprint eight lap heat race and 15 lap Main Event. The wins moved her into second in the standings, 14 points behind Devon Zuffa of Oakley.
Championship contender Buddy Chappell of San Jose bolted into the lead at the start in pursuit of his second win of the season. Scott ran second for a lap before Zuffa went low in Turn 4 on Lap 2 to grab the position. The yellow flag waved for Scott in Turn 4 on Lap 10. Chappell spun in Turn 4 for another yellow flag with his race coming to an end. Scott led Zuffa and Ryan Dotson of Fremont on the restart. Zuffa got a good run on Scott in his bid to grab the lead. However, he made contact with her in Turn 3 as a yellow flag waved. Zuffa headed to the pits with Dotson now leading. However, Scott took the lead on the restart and led the rest of the way for the her second victory. Dotson ended up second, followed by Zuffa, Chappell and Gabriel Monroy of Antioch.
Brandon Aylesworth of Suisun City won the 15 lap Dwarf Car Main Event after a late race duel with David Hays of Brentwood. Aylesworth had a big win at Watsonville earlier this season, but this was his first Antioch win of the year.
Aylesworth won the eight lap heat race earlier in the evening, but he spun in Turn 2 to force a restart. New point leader Travis Day of Concord led the opening lap before Aylesworth went low in Turn 2 to grab the lead. Hays followed Aylesworth into second and proceeded to keep the pressure on for the next 10 laps. A low move in Turn 4 of the 11th circuit moved Hays into the lead. However, Aylesworth got the inside line in Turn 2 on Lap 13 and would pass Hays to reclaim the spot. Ayelsworth took the checkered flag ahead of Hays and Nathan Schleth of Petaluma.
Racing resumes next Saturday night with the Fifth Annual Butch Althar Memorial Hardtop/ Sportsman race. The Pacific Coast Hobby Stock championship battle will resume along with the Wingless Spec Sprints, 600 Micro Sprints and Mini Stocks.
