Fire in Pittsburg Wetlands Grows to 270 Acres

A pesky fire that will not go out continues to reignite continues to force Contra Costa County Firefighters to respond to the marsh areas of the City of Pittsburg and Bay Point.

The fire first broke out on Saturday around 12:00 pm in Bay Point and initially was at 20-acres has ignited each day since. Crews responded back multiple times to an area that is largely inaccessible in a marsh, however, no structures are threatened.

On Sunday, another 30-acres burned as the winds increased according to Contra Costa County Fire. Crews also responded Monday and spent several hours at the scene on Tuesday.

The fire stands Tuesday the total acres burned stands at 270 acres, but that number will change as its still burning according to CONFIRE spokesperson Steve Hill.
