70 Animals Rescued During Fire on Barber Lane in Martinez

On Tuesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a house fire on Barber Lane in City of Martinez.

The fire broke out just after 11:00 am where firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from the garage area. Three residents were evacuated along with 70 cats and dogs.  By 11:51 am, CONFIRE announced that they had knocked down the fire and that one person required medical attention.

Preliminary investigation showed the fire had started in the garage area of the home and spread upstairs.

According to CONFIRE, they were assisted by Martinez Police Department, Contra Costa County Animal Control and many neighbors to help remove the 70 cats and dogs.

CONFIRE said the fire was not suspicious in nature.
