Jan 16-28: El Cerrito Police Calls

The following is a sampling of the El Cerrito Police Calls reported between January 16-28 which focuses on the higher priority call responses in the City of El Cerrito.

The following is a summary of criminal activity for the El Cerrito Police Department. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

 

Arson

  • 1/22 – 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave.: At 3:55 AM, El Cerrito Fire Department requested police assistance after they were dispatch to a fire in a locked bathroom. An unknown suspect lit several pieces of paper on fire and left them in the sink and trashcan. There was no damage.
  • 1/26 – 6800 block of Cutting Blvd: At approximately 12:10pm an unknown suspect set a portion of the victim’s backyard play structure on fire.

 

Assault w/Deadly Weapon

  • 1/20 – IFO 225 El Cerrito Plaza: At 1:07 PM, an unidentified suspect attempted to run the victim down with her car after a road rage incident that was repeatedly escalated by both involved parties.  Suspect vehicle was described as a maroon Nissan Altima driven by a black female, last seen toward San Pablo Ave.

 

Auto Burglary

  • 1/16 – 900 block of King Dr: An unknown suspect opened the unlocked door to the victim’s vehicle and stole a medical work bag containing patient medical records. The victim checked their video surveillance footage and noticed that the incident occurred on January 15th at approximately 5:30 am.
  • 1/25 – Richmond St. at Schmidt Ln: At approximately 9:14am, a suspect shattered a window to a parked US Postal truck and stole mail.  The suspect fled in a white BMW four door, northbound on Everett St.

 

Battery

  • 1/23 – IFO Ross,11565 San Pablo Ave.: At 6:12 PM, an officer reports a Lyft driver picked up two passengers in Richmond who wanted to go to Del Norte BART. While driving the passengers requested to be driven to Oakland. When the victim advised them he was not allowed to drive them to Oakland, one of the passengers started punching the victim in the face with her fists. Upon arrival at the Del Norte BART, both passengers exited the vehicle and walked southbound towards Hill St.

 

Burglary – Residential

  • 1/20 – 500 block of Liberty Street:  At 4:31 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the residence by removing the window screen and opening an unlocked window sometime between 8:00 PM on 1/17/2023 and time of call today.  The only known take was $200 cash.

 

Carjacking

  • 1/18 – 11319 San Pablo Ave (Chevron) At 12:07 pm, an officer reports two unidentified suspects attempted to carjack the victim at the gas pumps.  The victim fought back, with help from a witness, and the suspects fled the scene.  (Attempted)

 

Evading

  • 1/16 – Eastshore Blvd / San Pablo Ave: On January 16th, at 0318 hours, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for no front license plate.  The DMV hit came back with one lost or stolen plate.  The vehicle was a white 2005 Infinity 4-door sedan.  The vehicle failed to yield and ran the red light at Eastshore/Potrero as it entered onto I-80 WB at a high rate of speed.  The Infinity had lost control, spun out and the rear of the vehicle collided into a tree as it entered onto the I-80 westbound onramp.  Two suspects fled on foot from the vehicle along the sound wall.  Both suspects jumped over the sound wall onto S. 55th St near Creely Ave and eluded capture.

 

Grand Theft

  • 1/16 – 1000 block of Navellier St: At approximately 6:23 am, the victim heard sawing noises and saw a light under her parked Toyota Prius.  The victim checked her vehicle and saw that the catalytic converter was stolen.
  • 1/16 – El Dorado Ave at San Pablo Ave:  An unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter from their grey Toyota Prius. The incident occurred on 1/15/23, between 5:00 pm to 1/16/23 at 11:00 am.
  • 1/19 – 3000 Block of Belmont Ave: At 3:14 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s catalytic converter from the victim’s Toyota Prius. The theft occurred sometime between 1/18@1600 hours and 1/19@1200 hours.
  • 1/20 – 11225 San Pablo Ave. (Rockin’ Robbie’s Music):  At 10:25 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the store on two occasions, 1/3/2023 and 1/6/2023, and presented receipts for online orders of guitars.  On both occasions, the suspect took possession of the guitars.  On 1/17/2023, the store received a notification the credit card transactions for both purchases had been reversed by the credit card company as fraudulent.  The store was left without the money or the guitars.  Total loss was approximately $1800 between the two transactions.
  • 1/20 – 7400 Block of Seaview Pl.: At 4:50 AM, an officer reports three suspects stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s Toyota Prius.
  • 1/25 – 800 Block of Norvell St.: At 1:10am, an officer reports the victim heard sawing noises coming from the front of her house. When she went to investigate, she heard two subjects speaking to each other and standing next to her Prius. The victim yelled out to them to scare them off. The victim checked her vehicle and discovered the catalytic converter ($2500) had been stolen. The incident occurred at 0050 hours

 

Identity Theft

  • 1/20 – 2000 block of Key Blvd: At 1:47 PM, an officer took a telephone report of identity theft after the victim was unable to make an online report.

 

Organized Retail Theft

  • 1/24 – Ross, 2000 El Cerrito Plaza: At 8:59pm, an officer reports two suspects entered Ross and loaded a Ross shopping bag with $400 worth of merchandise. The subjects left the store without paying

 

Rape of Intoxicated Person

  • 1/24 – 11000 block of San Pablo Ave: On Sunday January 22nd, at approximately 3:15pm, the victim went to the suspect’s residence to watch football.  After drinking some alcohol with the suspect, the victim remembers waking up at 5 hours later.  The victim left the residence that evening, but the next day, complained of vaginal pain. The victim went to the hospital to be examined.

 

Robbery

  • 1/18 – 3300 Block of Santa Clara Ave: At 0318 hours, Officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Santa Clara Ave.  The victim was woken by the sound of sawing noises.  When the victim went outside to check, he was met by a suspect holding a gold handgun.  The second suspect was underneath his Toyota Prius cutting the catalytic converter.  The victim went back inside his residence and called 911.  The suspects fled in an older model gold Honda Accord 4-door or similar northbound on Santa Clara Ave.  Total loss, $1,000.00.
  • 1/24 – Sketchers 5805 Cutting Blvd. (parking lot) (ARMED): In the early morning hours, the suspect robbed the victim, while in the Sketchers parking lot.  The suspect cut the victim in the head, several times with a box cutter.  The suspect stole the victims bicycle and three bags containing the victim’s personal belongings. The victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
  • 1/25 – Wells Fargo Bank (parking lot): At approximately 1:46pm, while the victim was seated in her parked vehicle the suspect shattered her passenger side window and stole a backpack from the front seat.  The second victim was in the parking lot walking towards the front doors, when the same suspect approached her and ripped a tote bag off her shoulder.
  • 1/27 – 11687 San Pablo Avenue (Valero) (Armed): Officers were dispatched to a robbery at 1229 hours.  The suspects was reported to have been in possession of a firearm.  S-1 was described as a BMA in his 40s, wearing a blue hat with an orange brim, Pugs sunglasses (stolen), blue wind breaker with a grey hoody underneath, and blue jeans.  During the investigation it was discovered the incident occurred at 1139 hours. Loss is numerous self-care items and sunglasses.

 

Shoplifting

  • 1/17 – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 2042 hours, officers were investigating an unrelated call at the business when they were flagged down by loss prevention regarding a theft that an hour prior.  The suspect entered the store and selected several personal body accessories and left without paying.  The suspect fled in a red sedan NFD.  Total loss was $686.
  • 1/18 – 11555 San Pablo Ave (DD’s Discount): At 2044 hours, officers were dispatched to a subject who entered the business and selected several clothing items and fled the store without paying towards BART.  Total loss, $40.00
  • 1/24 – Ross, 11545 San Pablo Ave: At 8:21pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect left the store with a basket full of unpaid merchandise ($250).
  • 1/25 – Ross, 11565 San Pablo Ave.: At 7:41am, an officer took a report of a theft at Ross. An hour later, the officer was patrolling in the area of Ross when he noticed a subject matching the description of the suspect from the theft. The officer contacted the subject and confirmed he was the same person from the theft earlier. During a records check, the officer discovered the subject is currently on probation out of Alameda County for possession of a firearm. The subject was issued a citation and released from the scene.
  • 1/25 – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza : At 8:09pm, officers were dispatch to Ross for two unwanted subjects that have stolen in the past. Upon arrival, store employees pointed out a subject who had just exited the store with unpaid merchandise ($60). Officers detained the subject and employees placed him under Citizen’s Arrest. The subject was issued a citation and released from the scene

 

Theft

  • 1/17 – 2600 block Arlington Blvd: At 9:07 am an unknown suspect stole the victim’s mail from their mailbox while they were out of town on vacation.
  • 1/17 – Verizon 410 El Cerrito Plaza: At approximately 9:42 am, the suspect returned a game console controller.  After his money was reimbursed on his credit card, the suspect became upset, argued with the employee and left the store with the game console controller.
  • 1/17 – 1500 block of Liberty St: The victim never received the license plates in the mail for their vehicle which they bought in late 2022.  They believed they may have been stolen in the mail.
  • 1/17 – 7500 block of Terrace Dr.: An unknown suspect stole the rear license plate to the victim’s vehicle.  The theft occurred from January 16th at 8:00 am to January 17th at 12:05 pm.
  • 1/19 – 400 Block of Kearney St: At 1:19 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the rear license plate from the victim’s vehicle.  The theft occurred in between 0800-1600 hours on 1/18/2023.
  • 1/20 – 1700 block of Liberty St:  At 12:39 PM, an officer took a lobby report for theft of packages totaling $145 from the residence, at 0220 hours on 1/19/2023.  The theft was captured on video.

 

Vandalism

  • 1/16 – 2700 block Del Monte Ave.: At approximately 5:00 am, an unknown suspect shattered the rear sliding glass door to the victim’s residence, with an unknown object.

 

Vehicle Tampering

  • 1/21 – 600 Block of Ashbury Ave: At 9:50 PM, an officer reports the victim heard sawing noises coming from in front of his house. The victim went outside and noticed a subject standing next to his vehicle. The subject fled the area after seeing the victim. The victim checked his vehicle and discovered there was damage to the exhaust pipe near the catalytic converter.

 

Vehicle Theft

  • 1/16 – Stolen Vehicle and Hit and Run – 6400 block of Hagen Blvd: At approximately 6:44 am, two suspects stole the victim’s vehicle, by pushing it down the hill towards Knott Ave. The victim’s husband received a motion alert on their video surveillance camera, went outside and scared the suspects off.  The suspects got into a dark colored sedan and fled eastbound on Knott Ave.  As the suspects fled, they pushed the victim’s vehicle, into a parked GMC SUV, causing minor damage to both vehicles.
  • 1/18 – 1300 Block of Linda Vista Dr.: An officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s grey Mercedes C300 this morning between the hours of 2:15 am and 8:10 am.
  • 1/19 – 5000 Block of Cypress Ave: At 3:30 pm, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2002 Cadillac Escalade. The theft occurred at 0300 hours, and was captured on video.
  • 1/21 – 3200 block of Carlson Blvd: At 2:22 PM, an officer reports a black 2020 Nissan Maxima rental car was stolen between 11:45 PM on 1/19/2023 and 7:00 AM on 1/20/2023.
  • 1/23 – 7500 block of Rockway Ave: At 8:24 AM, an officer reports a white Ford box truck was once again stolen from the street sometime overnight.
  • 1/25 – 8600 block of Edgehill Ct.: The victims silver 2021 Honda Pilot was stolen sometime from 1/24 at 3pm to 1/25 at 9:45am.
  • 1/25 – 200 block of Behrens St.: The victims white 2014 Kia Forte was stolen some time from midnight to 3:30am.

Warrant

  • 1/21 – San Pablo Ave. and Manila Ave:  At 2:24 AM, an officer noticed two subjects in a verbal dispute. Officers contacted both subjects and discovered there was a dispute over marijuana. During a records check, one of the subjects was found to have an active no bail warrant out of Alameda County Warrant. The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • 1/23 – Potrero Ave / S. 53rd St: At 12:50 PM, an officer arrested on a CDCR parole warrant during a pedestrian stop.  Booked at ECPD then to county jail.
  • 1/23 – 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave: At 11:12 PM, officers were dispatch to a residence for a disturbance detail. During the investigation, officers discovered one of the involved subjects had an active warrant out of Alameda County. The subject was transported to the El Cerrito PD for booking and issued a citation and released.
  • 1/24 – – 6600 Central Ave: At 9:21pm, officers were dispatch to an unwanted subject. Upon arrival, officers contacted the subject and conducted a warrants check. The subject was found to have an active Alameda County Warrant.  After booking, the subject was transported to the MDF.
