The Concord Police Department reports that on Friday night, officers officers responded to a call of a vehicle that crashed into a house on Meadow Lane in the City of Concord.

Officers arrived on scene and located the vehicle, which had driven through the exterior wall of the house, through the living area and into the kitchen.

According to police, although the homeowner was inside the residence at the time, neither the homeowner nor the driver sustained any injuries from the collision. Through the investigation, officers on scene determined that the driver and solo occupant of the vehicle was impaired. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to the scene to assess the damage, along with City of Concord building inspectors later in the morning, as the damage may have compromised the integrity of the home.

Concord Police say incidents like this can be avoided by making the responsible and safe choice. Please drink responsibly and arrange a ride share or designated driver. This incident had the potential to have had an even worse outcome…

Please. Don’t drink and drive.

Just last week, Concord Police Department were on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

“We want everyone to be as safe as possible, especially when they are on the road,” Lt. Gregory Rodriguez said.

Concord Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving.

While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.

If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, plan on staying at home. Driving sober is your safest bet.

Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI will pay a stiff price: an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.
