On Sunday, May 21, 2023, around 5 p.m., Livermore Police responded to numerous reports of an altercation in the parking lot of the Arroyo Shopping Center (4300 block of First Street).
When officers arrived, they learned a suspect had assaulted a woman with a weapon and attempted to grab her purse. The woman fought back after the suspect violently attacked her for more than 30 seconds. The suspect then attacked a second woman and stole her purse at gunpoint. Both victims are in their 20’s, one from Livermore and the other from Discovery Bay.
The suspect took off in a getaway vehicle.
Police say after obtaining witness statements and reviewing evidence, Livermore Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Colby Berry of Fremont. Berry is on parole for shooting at an inhabited dwelling in 2021 and is currently wearing an ankle monitor. The ankle monitor had Berry at the scene of the robberies on May 21 in Livermore.
On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, with help from Berry’s parole officer, Livermore Police arrested Berry at the parole office in Oakland. A search warrant was executed for Berry’s home. There, detectives found a Glock handgun believed to have been used in the robberies.
Berry was transported to Santa Rita Jail and is facing several charges including two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, attempted robbery, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.
“It’s disturbing that Mr. Berry had already been released from prison after shooting at a residence in 2021,” said Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young. “While wearing an ankle monitor, he committed several violent crimes in Livermore. I hope the criminal justice system will hold him accountable for his continued violence.”
