Update: Quad Rider Killed in Oakley

On September 5, 2023 at 6:54 AM Oakley Police Officers were dispatched to Neroly Road, near the intersection of Elm Avenue, for a traffic collision involving a pickup truck and a quad ATV.

The initial caller informed dispatch the rider of the quad was seriously injured and possibly deceased. This incident caused a heavy law enforcement response to the area and at 7:01AM it was determined the male (22, of the city of Antioch) rider of the ATV was deceased.

Our initial investigation has revealed the rider of the ATV was riding in the southbound lanes of Neroly Road near Elm Lane. Physical evidence suggests the rider of the ATV lost control of his vehicle and entered a locked wheel skid that brought him into the oncoming northbound lane of Neroly Road. The rider of the ATV struck the front corner of an oncoming pickup truck and this collision forced the ATV and the rider back across the southbound lane of Neroly Road and into an adjacent field. The rider of the ATV was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. It has also been determined the ATV was not a street legal vehicle.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital for complaints of pain.

Neroly Road was closed for a period of time while this scene was being processed.

This collision remains under investigation while we examine the physical evidence and take witness statements. The City of Oakley extends condolences to the family of the decedent.
