The California Highway Patrol announced the arrest of a 57-year-old Oakley man in connection with a June 20 Freeway Shooting.
OAKLAND, Calif – Detectives assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Golden Gate Division (GGD) Special Investigations Unit (SIU), with the assistance of the GGD Canine Unit and CHP Oakland Area, have arrested 57-year-old Nestor Palacios of Oakley, Calif. after identifying him as the main suspect in a shooting in the Oakland Area in June.
On June 20, 2023, officers assigned to the CHP’s Oakland Area office were advised of a freeway shooting near the Interstate 580 (I-580) interchange with State Route 24 (SR-24). The victim was not struck by gunfire but discovered his vehicle had been struck by a single bullet.
During the subsequent investigation, detectives assigned to the GGD SIU were able to obtain information that identified Palacios as the suspect in the shooting. On Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at approximately 5:35 p.m., Palacios was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, detectives located a concealed loaded pistol on Palacios.
Following his arrest, Palacios was booked into Martinez Detention Facility on charges of attempted murder, shooting at a vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, and carrying a concealed firearm.
