Afternoon Highway 4 SIGALERT Impacts Commute Home

A mid-morning crash on Highway 4 and Willow Pass is now impacting eastbound Highway 4 traffic home as CHP issued a SIGALERT just before 3:00 pm.

The original crash occurred at 10:15 am in Concord just before Willow Pass Road where a semi-truck was involved in a crash which left it leaning up against a vehicle and a guard rail.

The CHP SIGALERT was issued at 2:47 as the two right lanes were blocked. By 4:34 pm, only the number 4 lane was blocked.

CHP said a lane closure for the far right lane (no. 4) would be closed until around midnight.

According to several of our readers, traffic is being impacted through the City of Concord, City of Pleasant Hill, City of Walnut Creek as commuters home are using back roads.

Here is some of the travel times they have informed us about:

  • Lisa Marie: It was terrible taking all the backroads thru concord and walnut creek! Over an hour to go 23 miles in town
  • Stacy: Mine was almost 80 minutes from Drive In to right before Willow Pass when you finally get passed it. That was from 1 to 230, I can’t imagine during commute time
  • Vanessa: 3:33pm been stuck on willow pass for an hour
  • Jason: 1 hour from Solano to willow pass
  • Angie: Bailey Rd is insane. Will take an hour to get home from Concord High to Pittsburg
  • Margaret: I left concord at 2:15 from Port Chicago and it took me an hour 15 minutes to get to Antioch
  • Maria: I was lucky. I found backstreets from Martinez through Concord past the area. I saw it headed West and thought I’d be stuck for hours like others on my way back.
  • Rogers: I sat in that for an hour and that was at noon. Started at Solano Exit all the way to Willow Pass.
  • Bernice: I drove by in opposite direction at 11:45 and it was already a mess. Not looking forward to the drive back.
  • Brenda: It sucked. I was stuck in it for about and hour twenty. All I saw was a set of doubles on its side with 3 tow trucks trying to right it.
  • James: TERRIBLE. All routes through Concord are jammed up. 242, Port Chicago and Willow Pass are all a nightmare.
  • Lindsay: I left for my appointment in Brentwood from Concord Ave at 2 to be there by 3, I couldn’t wind myself outta concord until 3. It’s terrible, and cops everywhere on the back streets

Took my two hours to get home coming from Martinez. Partly because I decided to grab a sandwich. At 830pm, the roads were still impacted on concord Ave thru kirker pass/railroad Ave in Pitt. You’d think with all the tech we have now, we’d have no issue getting things cleared out efficiently.

See Antioch, the CHP is busy dealing with these serious traffic issues. They have no time to be holding your hand.
