On Friday, a firearm was confiscated from a student on campus at Belshaw Elementary School in the City of Antioch.
The Antioch Unified School District confirmed the incident and said Antioch Police Department responded to the campus. After an investigation, it was found that there was no intent to use the gun on campus.
Here is the notice that went out to parents at 9:19 am:
Dear Belshaw Families,
Today at 7:50 am a parent notified the office that she believed a student was in possession of a gun on campus. Site administration immediately confiscated the gun from the student and notified the Antioch Police Department.
After an investigation was conducted, it was found that there was no intent to use the gun on campus. School safety is our top priority, and we want to thank the parent, police department, and school administration for their swift action.
Please speak to your children about the dangers of playing with guns. If you are a gun owner, please make sure they are securely locked up and away from your children.
We encourage all students to see something and say something, about anything related to safety. We ask that all parents have this conversation in an age appropriate with your children. Our campus will be taking steps to remind all students to always tell a trusted adult if they are worried about anything at all. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
